Saludos

The 420SV
Centerflag Products has been around since 1999, quietly building high end air systems for the most demanding players and their markers.  Their first adjustable, the 201 incorporated several features that immediately got people's attention and put the small Yorkville, IL company in the spotlight.  The 201 design was later refined to produce the Dynaflow, and the following year, the Dynaflow RR (replaceable rail) was introduced to be Centerflag's flagship adjustable air system.  The signature feature of the 201 and "Double R" has always been the pushbutton on-off that degasses the regulator and the marker it's attached to.

Along the way, Centerflag introduced their own line of inline regulators, called the Hyperinline, in both High Pressure and Low Pressure versions.  Like their bottle mounted counterparts, the inlines offered a superior flow rate due to the design of the regulator pin, which is made out of Kevlar, rather than the traditional metal pin riding in a plastic seat.  It was also during this time that Centerflag introduced their screw-in regulators, for those who wanted the ease of using a pre-set regulator.

The 400 Series pre-sets went on to be an extraordinarily popular seller for Centerflag.  With a medium output of 800 psi and a reasonable price, it's continuing to be a winner for Centerflag.
In 2004, owner Dennis Ashley quietly began designing a higher end version of the 400 series regulator.  The result was called the "4CE".  The 4CE (pronounced "Force") is an evolution of the 400 series regulator.  Initially it was thought that the 4CE would replace the 400 series, but it was decided that the 4CE would be a higher end alternative to the 400, offering some adjustability and enhanced safety features.  The 4CE was introduced at the 2004 World Cup and reaction to the new regulator was extremely positive.  The 4CE was never made in large numbers, due to problems with Centerflag's machinist.  However, the 4CE served as inspiration for taking another look at their line of pre-set regulators.

The air system on the test '06 Speed
During the course of 2005, Dennis and the design team at Centerflag Products took another look at the 400/420 Series pre-set regulators, and along the way the idea of introducing an on/off feature to it took hold, and the 420SV (Slide Valve) is the result.
The 420SV is internally exactly the same as current 420 regulators, with the exception of the top cap.  The top cap of the regulator incorporates the slide check and allows the user to turn the air system on and off.  One of the hallmarks of the SV's design is that when the air system is turned off, it degasses most markers along with the top half of the regulator.  During testing we found that WDP miniregs would still hold enough air for one shot, while other markers completely degassed.
This is useful for people who work on markers, and it's a way for players to enhance safety off the field.   To turn the air on, you slide the collar forward, and to turn the air off, you simply slide the collar backwards, which shuts off the air and degasses the marker.
The regulator that was sent along for testing and evaluation is a pre-production unit.  When asked what changes would be coming with the full production regulators, Dennis Ashley said that it hadn't been totally decided what, if any changes would be made prior to full production.  The test unit is a low pressure model, but Ashley related that both low and high pressure versions of the SV would be available.

The regulator was tested on a WDP '06 Speed, which like all Angels, is demanding on an air system.  During the course of testing, we noted no drop off whatsoever, even at high rates of fire.  The regulator is noticeably longer than its' 420 brother, but the extra length, a whopping 3/8ths of an inch, isn't noticeable once the system is on a marker.  This was borne out at a recent practice, and one of the people who saw the air system and noted the extra length.  I asked him to put the air system on his Shocker to see if he noted any difference in 'feel' of his setup, and much to his surprise, the extra length wasn't noticeable to him at all.

The SlidCheck installed on a Pure Energy Regulator
Centerflag Products will be putting the 420SV into full production soon, with the new regulator going on sale in early 2006.  Along with the full 420SV, Centerflag Products will also be making the SV's top cap, to convert existing 420 Series Regulators to the new SV.   For those who don't use Centerflag regulators, a part is also going to be made to allow any screw in air system to be upgraded with the SV's slide check.  The "Slide Check" will screw on top of the existing regulator, and then the entire assembly will screw into the marker's ASA.  Pricing for the complete 420SV regulator will be $85, and to upgrade your current 420 Series Regulator, the cost is $45, and the Slide Check will cost $35.  It's required that a certified technician or the factory upgrade your existing 420 Series regulator or to install a complete 420SV on your bottle.  The Slide Check can be installed by anyone, but it's recommended that the air system be empty before putting it on.

Mario:
